PRESS RELEASE – School system officials have been monitoring an unusual and serious weather system that will impact our county overnight and throughout the day tomorrow.
Habersham County will be under both a High Wind Advisory and a Flood Watch.
This afternoon, school system officials participated in a briefing with the National Weather Service.
Heavy rain, high wind gusts, flooding, downed trees, and power outages are all possible in our area tonight and during the day tomorrow.
We cannot risk students being stranded on a bus or at school, a tree falling on a bus or buses driving through flooded areas.
In the interest of student safety, all schools will be closed for students and staff on Tuesday, January 9th.
